When designing a nursery, there is so much to keep in mind. Safety is most important, followed by function and then obviously…FUN! Sometimes, when faced with blank walls, it’s best to build from an inspiration image, a piece of fabric or even an overall theme.

The theme of this nursery is a nod to Nautical, fit for a sailor…or a pirate 😉  The focal point of this room is the adorable sailboat mural that is repeated around the room. Your eye then moves to the sliding glass windows which let in a ton of natural light. Good for pictures, bad for nap time. So, we anchored the room with these Rugby blackout panels in navy/white from Pottery Barn Kids. When it’s not sleep time, we wanted to keep the room airy & light, so we kept all of the furniture & architectural elements such as the molding & cabinetry, a crisp bright white.

With safety in mind, we chose to mount lightweight acrylic book shelves so that the books are accessible to both parent & child. With simple updates like a new ceiling fan and attention to detail (it’s all about the little details) like the adorable nautical hardware and vintage buoy, we didn’t have to do much to make waves on this project 😉
